    Background

Physical inactivity during adolescence can result in an unfavorable consequence of imbalance. TRX muscle resistance exercise increases static balance and prevents muscle injuries in female students by strengthening body muscles.

    Objectives

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of total body muscular resistance training on the static balance of female student cohorts.

    Methods

This experimental study was conducted on 50 female students aged 12 - 15 who resided in Gorgan, Iran. The data collection tool was the stork's static balance test. The intervention group received ten training sessions (45 - 60 minutes) over ten weeks, but the control group received the routine school exercises. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS-21 software, wherein descriptive and inferential statistics, including paired t-test, independent t-test, and ANCOVA, were employed at a significance level of 0.05.

    Results

ANCOVA analysis, after eliminating the pre-test influence, indicated that the intervention group significantly improved the static balance of both the right (Eta = 0.57, P < 0.01) and left leg (Eta = 0.46, P < 0.01), after total body muscle resistance exercise (TRX) intervention.

    Conclusions

based on the results, engagement in muscular can augment muscle strength and preserve the body's equilibrium. Therefore, managers and health professionals should use this inexpensive, applicable, and safe exercise method to increase physical fitness and prevent musculoskeletal injuries among students.

    Background

The upward trends in divorce and the conflicts and distress in couples’ relationships made researchers seek cost-effective interventions to reduce marital problems.

    Objectives

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of integrative behavioral couple therapy (IBCT) on emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility among emotionally divorced couples (EDCs).

    Methods

The study was conducted on 20-50-year-old EDCs visiting Ramshir counseling centers in Iran in 2022. The purposive sampling method was used to select 12 couples (24 individuals). This experimental research adopted a pretest-posttest design with follow-up. The experimental group received ten 90-minute IBCT sessions. The research instruments included the Gottman Emotional Divorce Scale, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and Cognitive Flexibility Inventory—the repeated measures ANOVA was then used for data analysis in SPSS software version 27.

    Results

The mean (± SD) of emotion regulation was 80.25 ± 7.92 on the pretest, whereas it was 124.88 ± 11.63 and 120.88 ± 8.70 on the posttest and follow-up. Moreover, the mean (± SD) of cognitive flexibility was 60.50 ± 5.70 on the pretest, while it was 100.46 ± 6.33 and 97.13 ± 4.47 on the posttest and follow-up. The results indicated that IBCT improved emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility in EDCs (P < 0.001).

    Conclusions

Based on the results, IBCT can enhance emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility in couples experiencing marital conflicts and emotional divorce. Couples therapists should hold IBCT training workshops to improve emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility in EDCs.

    Background

Studies have shown the high prevalence of dental caries among children with cancer. Since parents’ awareness affects their children’s oral and dental health, this study was conducted to investigate the awareness and performance of parents of children with cancer regarding oral and dental health.

    Methods

This descriptive-analytical epidemiological study was conducted on the parents of 3-13-year-old normal (n = 110) and cancer-case (n = 110) children in Ahvaz, Iran, during the fall of 2022. In this study, a researcher-made questionnaire was used. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and regression analysis were utilized to investigate the relationship between awareness and performance. The data were analyzed by SPSS software version 24, and the significance level was P < 0.05.

    Results

Parents of normal children were more aware of oral and dental hygiene, but it is not statistically significant (P-value = 0.313 < 0.05). The results related to measuring parental performance showed that parents of normal children have a higher performance level than parents of cancer children, which is significant (P-value = 0.000 < 0.05).

    Conclusions

The awareness and performance of parents of children with cancer regarding their children’s oral and dental health were insufficient. Therefore, parents’ information should be increased in various ways, and children should be referred to a dentist based on a regular plan for preventive and therapeutic goals.

    Background

Anxiety and non-compliance with treatment endanger the health of hemodialysis patients. Hope therapy focuses on human abilities and capabilities instead of weaknesses using a positive psychology approach.

    Objectives

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of group hope therapy (GHT) on reducing anxiety and adherence to treatment (ATT) in hemodialysis patients.

    Methods

This semi-experimental study was conducted with a pre-test and post-test on 40 patients undergoing hemodialysis as consecutive non-probability sampling from among the clients of two hemodialysis centers in Khorram Abad, Iran, in 2017. Primary data of the study was collected using the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and End-Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire (ESRD-AQ) in four stages, including before the intervention, immediately after the intervention, one and three months after the intervention. Hope therapy intervention was implemented in groups of five people for eight sessions (one session per week and each session for 60 minutes) by the researcher and with the supervision and approval of a psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist. The data were analyzed in the SPSS software version 21 at the significance level (α = 0.05). In addition, Cronbach’s alpha test was used to measure the reliability of the questionnaires.

    Results

There was a significant difference in the mean scores of anxiety and ATT between the two stages "before the intervention" and "immediately after the intervention" (P < 0.05). In addition, there was no significant compliance with the treatment between the two stages "immediately after the intervention" and "three months after the intervention" (P < 0.05), while the average scores of Overt and covert anxiety were significant (P < 0.05).

    Conclusions

Based on the results, GHT effectively reduces overt and hidden anxiety and increases ATT in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, these results can help plan care for hemodialysis patients. Counseling sessions related to GHT should be offered for consecutive periods in educational and treatment centers by people with experience and training in working with hemodialysis patients.

    Background

There is limited available evidence regarding the relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and the use of medical technology in Iran.

    Objectives

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the usage of MRI and CTS in the west of Iran.

    Methods

This quasi-experimental study was conducted on collected data regarding the usage of MRI and CTS for 58 months from the health information systems of public hospitals in Kermanshah province (36 months before and 22 months after the pandemic). An interrupted time series analysis with segmented regression was used to assess the effect of the pandemic on the use of MRI and CTS. The population data were also obtained from the Statistics Centre of Iran (SCI).

    Results

After the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant increase (67.1%) in the use of CTS, while MRI decreased by 50.8%. In the first month of the pandemic, there was a reduction (14%) in using CTS and a significant decrease (81%) in using MRI compared to the pre-COVID-19 baseline level. However, after the initial reduction, there were significant increases in the use of CTS (20.4 per 100,000 population) and MRI (0.21 per 100,000 population) every month during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Conclusions

Based on the results, there was an increase in the use of CT scans and a decrease in the use of MRI after the pandemic, consistent with previous studies in other countries. Further studies are required to analyze the factors affecting the use of healthcare services during crises to improve preparedness for future pandemics.

    Background

Cancer causes several social and psychological problems and responses, such as denial, anger, and feelings of guilt, which eventually lead to the patient’s psychological coherence collapse.

    Objectives

The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of psychodynamic group therapy on the components of the sense of coherence (SOC) among patients with colon cancer.

    Methods

This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pretest-posttest design with a control group and follow-up on all patients with colon cancer treated at the Poursina-Hakim Treatment Center in Isfahan, Iran, during the spring of 2022. Then, 28 patients were selected using convenient sampling and divided randomly into two 14-member groups: the psychodynamic therapy group (receiving 12 treatment 100-minute sessions) and the control group. The participants completed the Sense of Coherence (SOC) Scale in three pretest, posttest, and follow-up stages. The research data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and the Bonferroni post hoc test in SPSS software version 26.

    Results

The mean ± SD of the posttest score of comprehensibility in the psychodynamic therapy group was 40.57 ± 7.20, which was different from the pretest 32.42 ± 5.98. Moreover, the mean ± SD of the posttest score of meaningfulness in the psychodynamic therapy group was 37.57 ± 7.53, which was also different from the pretest 31.14 ± 6.16. Psychodynamic therapy effectively enhanced comprehensibility (P = 0.001) and meaningfulness of life (P = 0.032) among patients with colon cancer. The therapeutic effect remained stable over time only in the comprehensibility component. The stability of the intervention effects on meaningfulness was not observed over time. Additionally, the therapeutic effect on the manageability component was not significant.

    Conclusions

Based on these results, psychodynamic therapy could affect the patients’ comprehension of the current circumstances and the meaningfulness of life and help their psychological adaptation.
