Midwifery nursing educational status from the viewpoint of faculty members

Abstract:
The educational activities of each country can account investment of one generation to another generation. This descriptive – cross sectional study was conducted to determine the educational status of midwifery nursing group of Ahwaz medical sciences university from academic faculty members viewpoint in the first semester from 2008 to 2009. The study population included all masters of Ahwaz Nursing Midwifery Faculty. Data collection tool was a questionnaire including 32 questions relating to educational masters function. The data was analyzed by using SPSS software and with descriptive statistics. Research finding indicate that faculty members’ use of teaching methods of lecture, question and answer and combination, use of educational aid tools and number of sessions for each lesson were reported desirable but use of workshop teaching method was unsatisfactory. The faculty members’ use of new and innovative techniques in theory and clinical teaching and their participation in the curriculum was as relatively desirable. According to indicators related to clinical education, implementation of educational rounds in each clinical unit was reported relatively desirable but enough variety and number of cases were reported undesirable for learning of students. This stuy provided a method for comparing of present situation to desirable situation that can be provided more awareness of relevant authorities to existing condition and create a appropriate clinical environment for students and endeavor to eliminate defects and failures according to the views of faculty members to promote their university education quality.
