An analysis of the contents and services of Iranian University Websites to Faculty Members

Websites are dynamic and would be sustainable if they are used by the users. This depends to their up-to-dateness based on user's needs. This research aimed to study the status of services by university library Websites to academic staff at Iranian universities. Such Websites were evaluated according to criteria regarding library facilities, current contents services, collection development and library services. Also we studies the pages representing academic staff information in the university Website. Research population consisted of 32 Websites affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT) and Ministry of Health and Treatment (MHT). Results of this survey showed that more than 50% of library Websites foused on only two (out of 9) indicators (i.e., working hours and the library address). From 8 indicators for alerting services, the most frequent one was the "alerting about conferences"with 93.80%, anf from 9 indicators for collection development, 80% of the Websites had information such as "Introduction to collection development", "Electronic sources", and "list of databases". The best criterion applied was related to library services including four categories of borrowing, acquisitions, supporting research and supporting teaching activities. As a whole, the University of Tehran, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Amirkabir University were the best universities providing library services
