Informtion Organization with User's Logic: A Survey of Iran's University Libraries Websites

Abstract:
Purpose
The aim of this research was to investigate users’ perception about information organization (or arrangment) in Iranian univedrsity Library Websites. We evluated information organization' compatibility with users’ logic.
Method
Our population, in one hand, were Iran’s top academic library websites and, on the other hand, higher education students at Ferdowsi Mashhad University. Mixed method was used in this research including heuristic, cards sorting, and semi-structured interviews.
Findings
Findings showed that information organization in Iran’s academic library websites did not follow users’ logic in half of the cases; it means that users had faced difficulties when they wanted to locate their required information items. It was approved by interview with 8 students. Finally, logical organization of information items was defined by users through cards sorting and then suggested pattern was presented for organizing information items on these websites.

We suggest a model for information organizing in university libraries according to user's logic
