The Feasibility of Implementing " Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR)" in Iranian Library Softwares

The purpose of this research was to investigate the feasibility of implementing Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) in Iranian Library Softwares. The research used analytical-systematic approach, and the research population consisted of four softwares: Simorgh, Azarakhsh, Payam Mashregh and Papyros. The method used for gathering information was direct observation, and data gathering tool was a researcher-made checklist. Findings showed that the Simorgh software supports the “find” user task 61.35%, the “identify” user task 41.28%, the “select” user task 26.18% and the“obtain” user task 32.95%. In the Azarakh software, the user task of “find” got 99.15% and the user task of “obtain” got 99.85% of the total score. In the Payame mashregh software, the "find” user task got 59.18%, the “identify” user task got 37.95%, and the “select” user task and the“obtain” user task got 20.58% and 31.8% respectively. Finally the Papyros software performed the “find” user task with 67.78%, the “identify” user task with 50.18%, the “select” user task with54.45%, and the obtain” user task with 68.3%. Based on the research results, “Azarakhsh”, “Papyros”, “Simorgh”, and “Payame Mashregh” achieved the ranks 1 to 4 respectively
