Scientism and the Crisis in Humanities

The author of the article aims to focus on a basic evolution in human sciences: Islamic university and islamicization of universities is one of the expert's preoccupations in this way. In resent years, humanities and the necessity of revolutionary perspective toward humanities became as the central agenda for those who follow to actualize the purposes of Islamic revolution. There is an interconnected relationship between islamicization of universities and basic evolution in human sciences. The present study in a critical and analytical approach indicates scientism as an exclusive method, which influences the aims and contents of human sciences'. A basic step toward islamicization of universities is to evaluate the human sciences and to remove the distorted thinking as Scientism. The author of the article confirms that a Scientism-based university is not considered as an Islamic university, since in this system of thought, only materialistic mechanisms are identified and most of Islamic values are ignored. Although Islamic system encourages and invites people to learn empirical knowledge but on the other hand does not limit the human system of thoughts to empirical knowledge and considers more mechanisms. The paper concludes that one of the major damages in Islamic human sciences is scientism and revising the matter is considered as one of the important steps in islamicization of universities. Therefore, whenever we achieve Islamic goals in humanities in universities we can consider such university as Islamic university.
