Analysis and Typology of the Ideas of the Orientalists upporting the Social Science of Muslims

Abstract:
The present article deals with the ideas of orientsalists about the civilization and knowledge of Muslims. The idea of “the other”, orientalists, about “self”, Muslims, and the way they represent Muslims, help the scientific society of Muslims to know themselves better and consider the situation and strategy of the rival in their interactions. In this article the typology of the unanimous orientalists and their theories are discussed. Three approaches of traditionalism, phenomenology and historicism are discussed in the study of the ideas of this group of orientalists. Among the unanimous orientalists, Annemarie Schimmel, Izutsu, Corbin, Rene Gnone and Gustav Lebonne can be highlighted. This article aims to study and evaluate the ideas of the orientalists about the social science of Muslims. Non-scientific and racist judgment of “the other” about the social science of Muslims is one of the important findings of the present study. The theoretical framework of the article is based on Charles Horton Cooley’s theory of “looking-glass self” which is based on the concept of “the other”.
