The effect of slow stroke back massage on shoulder pain in stroke patients

Shoulder pain caused by hemiplegia a common finding after Stroke that patient independence in performing daily activities are severely restricted. Study to determine the effects of massage S. S.B.M massage on the amount of shoulder pain stroke patients was conducted this study is a quasi-experimental research, the study population were include 70 patients with hemiplegia upper extremity in stroke who were in Tabassom Rehabilitation Centre of Tehran. sample was consisted 34 patient with shoulder pain were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. finaly after attrition 30 patient with shoulder pain were selected.. The samples were selected by simple random sampling and then allocated to two groups of experimental(n=15) and control(n=15). Then for each sample by intervention group 6 session of S. S B.M massage for 10 minutes in time 12-9 has done. Status pain using the visual pain scale (Visual Analog Scale) before and 24 hours after the last massage session in both intervention and control groups were measured and between the two groups were compared. data analysis is descriptive and analytical statistical tests (t independent, t paired) was performed. : the mean of shoulder pain before intervention in experimental group was 8 /40 and in control group was 8 / 40 after intervention the mean of shoulder pain in experimental group was 1 / 13 and in control group was8 / 40. .different between 2 group was significant in 95% level. According to the results of research, training and massage using S. S. B. M treatment and care by staff can be an effective step in preventing or reducing shoulder pain and therefore improve motor function Patients with Hemi Plegia be considered due to stroke
