Exploring Factors that Influence people's Satisfaction with Sidewalk Environments Using Multi-criteria Methods (SAW, TOPSIS, VIKOR & AHP) (Case study: Tehran, Iran)

This study aims to explore physical and emotional factors associated with people’s satisfaction with Tehran’s sidewalk environments (natural or man-made) and finding the direct or indirect relations among them; accordingly, the factors were considered in 3 main categories as physical, emotional and total. Data collected by a psychological-statistical survey sampling 114 participants, then the multi-criteria methods (SAW, TOPSIS, VIKOR and AHP) identified to analyze and correlate. Results show that overall satisfaction is more strongly directly affected by emotional perception factors than physical components. The method presented in this study provides a useful model for urban designers and planners to consider people’s satisfaction more clearly beside existing regulation and manuals.
