Introduction
Prolonged exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) influences digestive system specially its motility. The present study was performed in order to study the effects of exposure to low frequency EMF on the adrenergic system of large intestine.
Methods
In this experimental study, thirty adult male rats were divided into three groups: First group (experimental) included 10 male rats that were exposed to 1000µT and 50Hz for 140 days in the on solenoid. Second group (shahed) included 10 rats that were kept at same condition as the first group except that the solenoid was off. Third group (control) included 10 rats that were kept in a normal condition. Mechanical activity of the isolated strips of colon that were inserted to organ bath contained Kerebs solution(CaCl2 2/5, KCL 4/7, KH2Po41/2, MgSo4 1/2, NaHCO3 25, NaCl 118, glucose11, PH=7.4) (37°C) and they were linked to power lab force transducer to record cumulative doses of Phenylephrin. The data was analyzed using t- test at p<0.05 as a significant level.
Results
The results showed no significant difference regarding long- term exposure to low frequency Electromagnetic field on adrenergic receptor α 1 adrenergic receptor sensitivities.
