Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Idea of Determinism in Arabic Poetry

Abstract:
The underlying of all the directions in one‟s life is his ideas and beliefs. Therefore, belief plays the most important role in the man‟s personal and social life. Throughout the ages, poetry has been one of the two powerful media influencing public opinion which its spoken effect as the lasting art work is important. Whether in the age of ignorance or in the era of Islam, poetry has been used in all cases. Arabic poetry had its progression almost consistently from the age of ignorance until the end of the Umayyad period and there was little change and evolution over time. However, starting with the Abbasid Caliphate, a dramatic development appeared in poetry, literature and even the Arab culture which its greatest manifestation was in the theological subjects. This paper compares the theological views: Imamieh, Asharites and Mutazilites and examines the influence of determinism on Arabic poetry. It also considers the fact that such poets as: Bashar Ibn Bard, Abol Atahieh, Homeyri,… partly because of their commitment to the theological concepts could avoid the poetic contents. And finally it studies the poems of Abol Atahieh, who had been one of the well-known poets and proved some theological beliefs in his poems.
