Assessment of Antioxidant Capacity and Anti-Inflammatory of Alcoholic Extraction of Chamomile, Morus, Marshmallow, Borage and Rosemary

Message:
Abstract:
Introduction
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in finding new compound with herbal origins for treatment and prevention of disease. This study aims at investigating the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of Borage officinalis, althaea officinalis, chamaemelum nobile, morus alba and rosmarinus officinals which are commonly used in traditional medicine.
Methods
In this study the antioxidant activity was investigated by applying cupric ion reducing assay (cupric assay) and anti-inflammatory activity investigated through inhibition albumin serum denaturation.
Results
Morus alba, chamaemelum nobile and borage officinals were found to have the highest antioxidant capacity. Chamaemelum nobile, rosmarinus officinals and althaea officinalis had considerable anti-inflammatory activity and the alcoholic extraction of nobile and rosmarinus officinals had marked anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
Conclusion
Use of screening tests such as the above-mentioned methods are useful for finding biological components with different effects.
