A study of the relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational commitment: A case study

The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational commitment of employees at the Shahid Beheshti University. Research method was descriptive and the statistical method was correlative and statistical population consisted of 928 persons from them 273 were selected according to the Morgan Table through stratified random sampling technique. The tools used to collect data were two questionnaires, namely emotional intelligence of Seaber Yashring (1995) and organizational commitment of Mowday, Steers & Porter (1979). Alpha Cronbach test was used to measure reliability of the questionnaires and it was 0.91 and 0.82 for the questionnaires respectively. To analyze the data collected, Pearson correlation coefficient and multi regression were used. Findings showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between the two variables. Research findings also indicated that there was a positive and significant relationship between the self–awareness, empathy, Social skills and motivation with organizational commitment; however, there was not a positive and significant relationship between the self–control and organizational commitment.
