Study of relationship between seed yield and its components on Panicum miliaceum L. genotypes

In order to study the relationships among seed yield and its components on Proso millet Panicum miliaceum L.، path analysis and factor analysis on agro-morphological traits was conducted on 15 genotypes using a randomized complete block design with four replications in Agricultural and natural Resource Research Center of Esfahan، Iran. Seed yield had positively correlated with both forage yield and seed number per panicle and negatively correlated with node number. Results of stepwise regression analysis for seed yield as dependant variable showed that forage yield، seed number per panicle، stem diameter and leaf number per plant were entered into final model، respectively، and justified 99 percent of total variation of seed yield. Path analysis showed that forage yield and seed number per panicle had the highest direct effects on seed production. Factor analysis revealed three factors that justified 93. 81 percent of the total variation among the characters. That factors were named as forage production factor (forage yield، stem diameter and seed number per panicle)، seed production factor (seed yield and panicle length) and morphologic characters factor (plant height، Leaf number per plant)، respectively. It was concluded that forage yield and seed number per spike were the most important criteria for improve new variteis for seed production in Proso millet.
