Language of Quran from the Viewpoint of Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli and Ludwig Wittgenstein

Abstract:
Religious language is a part of philosophy of religion, which has presented from the outset of it. However, the language of Quran has a long history in Islamic tradition and culture. The semantics of declarative adjectives of the Quran is an important topic concerning this issue. In Islamic theology, there are many theories presented about the language of Quran, among which the last theory is offered by Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli. He believes that Quran's language is the language of nature. This paper presents the conceptual and affirmative principles of his theory, and explains its reasons. He supports his theory by four reasons: 1- the Quran is a guide to all people. 2- Quran's culture is a universal culture. 3- Quran is comprehensible to everybody. 4- Human being is in need of the Quran's message. Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli states three important features for the language of the Quran that it is comprehensible to everybody: 1- Its language is strong, meaningful, but easy to understand. 2- It is a brilliant light that never loses its luster. 3- It is evident and demonstrative. After that, Wittgenstein's language-game theory, along with its conceptual and affirmative principles, is presented. He offers four reasons to prove that religious propositions are meaningless: 1- meaning usage. 2-Diversity of word's usage. 3- Lack of shared face in different usages. 4-The way of livelihood. The theories of Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli and Ludwig Wittgenstein are deliberated and compared with each other.
