Numerical Simulation of Flow Pattern in Meandering Rivers Using the CCHE2D Model
In the present paper، a numerical model to predict and monitor governing processes in the river flow was used. With respect to the importance of flow velocity and shear stress on river bank erosion، a two-dimensional numerical model (CCHE2D) was used to predict the river flow pattern in a meandering reach of Farsan Arid River. Along with the surveyed date topographic maps of the study area were firstly utilized to generate the model geometry and mesh with appropriate dimensions. Having entered the geometry data and the properties of the river flow into the depth-averaged two-dimensional hydrodynamic model of CCHE2D)، this model was run. The obtained results showed a good match between simulated and observed water depth and flow velocity. In particular، measurements of velocity in the field were used for model validation. Good agreement between numerical results and measurements in this study indicates the high capability of CCHE2D model in prediction of flow pattern in meandering rivers.
