Serum Level of Anti-Mullerian Hormone after Exercise Training in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Message:
Abstract:
Introduction
The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder characterized by reproductive and metabolic disturbance. It is the most common cause of infertility. The aim of this study was investigating the effect of aerobic training on obesity status، insulin resistance and serum levels of anti-mullerian hormone in PCOS patients.
Methods
This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 22 PCOS women who referred to Kosar clinic in Arak، Iran in 2012. Patients were randomly divided into aerobic training and control groups. The exercise protocol consisted of aerobic training 3 days per week for 8 weeks. At weeks 0 and 8،fasting blood samples and anthropometric measurements were collected. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 15 and Kolmogorov-Smirnov and dependent t-test. P value less than 0. 05 was considered significant.
Results
Body weight (p<0. 002)، body mass index (p<0. 05)، waist circumference (p<0. 001)، total cholesterol and triglyceride levels (p<0. 02) were significantly decreased in training group، whereas VO2 peak increased by exercise (p<0. 05). Changes in serum anti-mullerian levels and insulin resistance index were not significant in either of the groups (p>0. 05).
Conclusion
Aerobic training improves metabolic and morphological status in PCOS patients. This beneficial effect is not associated with alteration in serum anti-mullerian hormone levels.
