Comparison of commitment sense, social function and depression between ordinary and Olympiad students in Tehran high schools

Abstract:
Introduction
The aim of present study was comparing the sense of commitment, social function and depression of Olympiad and ordinary male students in second and third grades of Tehran high schools (Zones 1-6).
Method
The research sample was 275 students (140 Olympiad students and 135 ordinary students). The new version of Berzonsky Identity Style Inventory and the General Health Questionnaire (Goldberg and Hillary, 1979) performed. The obtained data were analyzed by Pierson and regression correlation coefficient.
Results
Findings revealed a significant difference between average of identity styles in sense of commitment in both ordinary and Olympiad. Also the average of social function and depression in two groups show a significant difference and social function of the Olympiad students is significantly lower than ordinary students but the major depression in ordinary students is higher than other group.
