Qualitative study of the nurse patient relationship concept meaning in operation room

Abstract:
Introduction
Nursing takes place in the context of the nurse-patient relationship. Although there is a vast amount of nursing literature about this topic، the nature of nurse-patient relationship in operating room settings remains unexplored. The aim of this study was to illuminate the nurse patient relationship concept meaning in operation room.
Methods
Using the qualitative approach، a purposive sample of 8 nurses، 7 patients and 2 patient relatives were interviewed in-depth. The observation was also conducted and 14 field notes were written. The data were transcribed verbatim and analysed using the inductive content analysis method.
Findings
The emerging theme was ‘reliance based caring presence’. Under this theme three subgroups were discussed: «nurse centered presence»، «patient centered presence»، ” and spirituality-based care «.
Conclusions
The paper concludes by highlighting the complexity of the nurse-patient relationship concept and identifies this dimensions. The results showed that the spirituality-based care is integral of other relational approach in operation room. This new issue need to future research.
