Spatial Modeling of the Physical Oceanography Parameters (Temperature & Salinity) in the Chahbahar Bay Using by COHERENS Numerical Model

Abstract:
It is essential to evaluate physical oceanography parameters of Chahbahar bay as the largest bay of Oman sea in Iranian coasts. In this study، physical oceanography parameters including temperature and salinity were predicted by using COHERENS Numerical Model and compared with field measurements. Objectives of this study were modeling variations of physical oceanography parameters، validation of numerical model using field measurements، and collecting data for fishery، marine-based defense، shipping، economical، industrial applications. In general، results show that in the cold seasons Oman Sea is warmer than Chahbahar bay and in the hot seasons the condition is vice versa. Also، the water temperature decreases from surface to bottom in all seasons. By considering low water volume as a result of low depth of Chahbahar bay in compare with Oman Sea. The temperature of water (water temperature) in the sited region is lower in winter and more in spring and summer than Oman Sea. In general the amount of salinity inside the bay is more than outside of the bay except in the monsoon time. The most important factor which causes high salinity in the bay is due to the low depth and therefore high evaporation in the bay.
