Effects of Quil-A and levamisole on serum and mucus lysozyme activity in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
Abstract:
In this research, Quil-A and levamisole were used for ten days as immunostimolants by immersion (40 and 50 mg/lit for Quil-A and levamisole, respectively) and oral route(5 and 10 mg for Quil-A, and 20 and 40 mg for levamisole) in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) mean body weight of 75 grams. Twenty days after the last dosing, blood and mucus samples were collected and serum and mucus lysozyme activity were determined. Results showed that lysozyme activity was increased significantly(P<0.05) in all experimental groups except the group given high oral doses of levamisole as compared to the control group. Among the groups receiving oral doses of Quil-A no significant differences (P<0.05) was observed in the serum and mucus lysosmal activity. In addition, in all three groups given Quil-A, lysozyme activity of both serum and mucus was significantly increased when compared with the control group. It is generally concluded that Quil-A with 5 and 10mg oral doses is preferred to stimulate the non-specific immune response of common carp.
