Reed Homes a Distinctive Aspect of Sustain ability in Architecture

Examining the concept of sustainable architecture and its various aspects related to other areas associated with architecture like structure and building technology, this paper attempts to provide a definition of sustainable architecture, mainly in terms of the nature of the concept of sustain ability in architecture. The advantage of such a definition is that many architectural works with unstable structures or declining technology, if they have the essence of architectural stability in them, find the opportunity to enter the domain of stable architecture. Thereby, it is hoped that revival and employment of hidden capacities in such works be taken as the legacies of sustainable architecture. Architecture of reed-based homes in lagoons in southern Iran (Khuzestan Province) is a sample case which this study tries to elaborate on. The research method is interpretive-historical in this study which is conducted using library resources and field studies.
