Examining the Role of Internet in Political Development

The Internet is one of the most influential modern communicative technologies affecting almost all aspects of human life. The present article addresses the role of this new technology in political development. In other words, could Internet-based communications facilitate political development? The study was carried out using documentary-based methodology.Politics scholars maintain that the Internet has had positive implications in terms of political development, including free circulation of information, wide influence on public opinions, structural reforms in communities, electronic democracy, organizing elections etc. Due to such peculiarities as interactivity, simultaneity, ubiquity and availability, uncontrollability …, the Internet could facilitate the revival of the lost aspects of political participation and democracy.
