The Relationship between Marital Satisfaction and Social Support with Maternal Fetal Attachment in Pregnant Women with a History of Baby Loss

Maternal-fetal attachment considers as a sign of mother's effectiveness on baby caring and mother-fetal attachment in the post-partum period. This topic is very important in women with a history of baby loss. This study was done aimed to determine the relationship of marital satisfaction and social support with maternal-fetal attachment in pregnant women with a history of baby loss. This correlation study was conducted on 180 pregnant women with the history of baby loss who referred to Mashhad health centers, Iran during 2013. Data were collected with Cranley's maternal-fetal attachment, social support and marital satisfaction questionnaires. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 11.5), one way ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. The average of maternal-fetal attachment was 64±18.05. There was a direct correlation between marital satisfaction and maternal-fetal attachment (p<0.001) and also between social support and maternal-fetal attachment (p<0.001). Maternal-fetal attachment increases with increasing social support and marital satisfaction.
