Educational Policies in Institutions Built in the Early Post-Constitutional Iran: Period of the First National Consultative Assembly

Author(s):
Abstract:
The prevalent discourse in pre-constitutional era Iran was largely traditional and markedly influenced by institutions ruling the society-institutions which, by definition, would resist against any transformation in the country’s educational system. The Constitutional Revolution, however, brought significant changes to the educational system. Together with the then governments, the first National Consultative Assembly passed educational rules and policies which created a suitable and legal opportunity for building schools and designing cultural activities in an air free of pressures of the demands of the ruling class. State, provincial and national associations initiated many efforts in different parts of the country and managed to establish schools with modern curricula-efforts which fostered dissemination of knowledge across the country. The author aims in this paper at exploring how policies created by official and non-official institutions (the Assembly, the government and the associations) in the early post-constitutional period established the modern educational discourse in the country.
