Comparison of search engines performance in retrieving querries

Abstract:
Purpose
The main purpose of the research was to compare search engines performances in retrieving results for navigating querries.
Methodology
five search engines including Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, AOL were selected based on the Alexa rating scores. 011 questions in Persian along with the exact statement of question, a short description of information need, and the intended URLs were collected from the students. All 011 querries were searched in the selected search engines and the position of the correct results were recorded. For calculating the retrieving performance for the navigating querries several scales such as N success scale and reverse mean scores were used. Findings/
Results
three search engines consisting Google, AOL, and Ask had somehow good results for navigating querries in Persian with the success rate of 364, 304, and 214, respectively. Nonetheless, Yahoo and Bing with 354 and 414 unsuccessful results had poor performances. Most results by Google, AOL, and Ask were retrieved in the first page.The search engines in 314 of cases were capable of retrieving requested items on the first page.
