Correlation among scholarly and social influence measures of researchers: A case study of scientometrics research

Objectives
The current study aims to investigate the correlation among scholarly and social influence measures of scientometricians. In this study, the influence of 3824 researchers who have published in Scientometrics was studied using 18 different metrics include number of publications, number of citations, citations per paper, h-index, g-index, degree centrality, betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, eigenvector and number of collaborators.Research
Methodology
The present study was conducted using scientometric approach. A total of 3346 research articles published in the international journal of Scientometrics between 1008 and 2812were selected as the sample of the study.
Results
Results of the study showed that a few scientometricians like Glanzel, Rousseau, Schubert, Braun, Van Raan, Moed, Meyer, Debackere, Leydesdorf, Egghe, Vinkler, Gupta, Courtial, Van Leeuwen, Thijs, Kretschmer, Small, Persson and Liang occupy the topmost positions in various rankings, which indicate their absolute position in scientometrics research. Moreover, in order to determine the relationship among various scholarly and social influence measures, a series of Pearson product moment correlation tests were employed. Results revealed statistically significant relationships among all variables except citations per paper and betweenness centrality, closeness centrality and eigenvector. The correlation between the h-index and g-index was the strongest of all variable combinations studied at the 0000 level. Finally, specifications of high impact scientometricians are discussed.
Conclusion
Using social influence measures beside scholarly influence measures will provide a more complete picture of researcher‘s function in various research areas.
