Changing Higher Education Curriculum, Case Study: Graduate Curriculum in Educational Planning

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was exploring changes in the curriculum of higher education (Curriculum of educational planning). This purpose were studied in four elements of curriculum which include aim, content, teaching- learning opportunities and evaluation. Population was faculty members and students at six public universities that had master level courses in educational planning. Using cluster random sampling, Tehran University, Allameh Tabatabaei University and University of Mazandaran and Isfahan were selected. The sample included 32 faculty and 93 graduate students. Descriptive method used in this study and research tool was the questionnaire survey. To examine aim element, main goals of the course which mentioned in "specifics of curriculum and course headlines" were evaluated. To examine content element, the necessity of the courses, number of credits for each course, objevtives and headlines regarding approved official document were evaluated and finally to investigate learning-teaching opportunities and evaluation, current situation these two elements executed according to the implemented curriculum. results revealed that faculty members believed that the goals are appropriate, however students considered necessity of change in the element of curriculum. About the content, faculty members and students believed that almost all courses in this field should be preserved and also agreed with the number of credits for each course, But they disagreed with objectives and syllabus of courses. Faculty members and students believed teaching- learning opportunities and evaluation need to change.
