Compatibility issues between books published and undergraduate LIS education in Iran

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between published books and educational courses related to library and information science in Iran. In this study, the needed data is gathered using compact disc of Iran national bibligraphic database, Namaye and Khaneye Ketab database, publication lists of different publishers. In order to perform statistical analysis Microsoft Excel is used. According to our findings, out of 657 published books in the field of LIS, 227 books can be considered as the teaching reference for undergraduate courses. Among these references, 157 books are used for mandatory courses and 52 books are used for optional courses.Moreover, the obtained results indicate that, being a mandatory or an optional course does not affect the number of publications. Courses with higher number of publications have more circulation and there is a relatively high correlation between units of courses and number of publications.
