Evaluating Factors Affecting Driver Behavior during the Pedestrian Crossing the Crosswalk (Case Study of Tehran)

The main goal of this paper is evaluating driver behavior passing crosswalk coincident with pedestrians. Number of vehicles and pedestrians passing the crosswalk are counted manually and a questionnaire is filled by a sample of 127 walkers and 57 drivers which shows driver's manner while passing crosswalk in the meantime with pedestrians. The questionnaire tries to estimate which factors are effective on intersection drive-passing duration when a walker is observed by the driver. The results show that anxiety prevents drivers from stopping and letting pedestrians to pass. Therefore, walkers have to wait for the vehicles to pass.
