Evaluating the Impact of Bus Rapid Transit System on Air Pollution (Case Study: Tabriz)

Increased motor vehicle traffic has created many problems in big cities. The most important of which is air pollution and increased consumption of gasoline. The actions can be done to solve the traffic problem in Tabriz metropolitan, according to Public Transport, especially Rapid Bus System. Because it reduces the social cost and lowers Air Pollution. In Tabriz in 1387 a quick implementation of such system was accomplished in city’s main crossing. The method of this research is descriptive - analytical and data collection is documents. Therefore is used from all Air Pollution Monitoring Stations data in Tabriz city. This data contains CO, SO2 and NO2. The hypothesis of "assessing of Rapid Bus System resulted in decreasing air pollution within route and in the entire city" was tested and following results came out: SAT function is significant only in the reduction of nitrogen dioxide and in other cases no significant effect on Contaminants Reduce. Even in the case of sulfur dioxide, along the SAT way a small increase was observed. Therefore, the hypothesis is rejected in this study. Air pollution is influenced by several factors, one of which is Public Transport, especially in industrial cities such as Tabriz, role of industrial plants is very important. In conjunction with Bus Rapid contamination, the following factors can be cited: significant frazzle and not standardized number of bus in SAT, of not using the natural gas generally and using non-standard gasoline.
