Review of family risk factors in offsprings of addicted parents

The aim of the article is to review family risk factors for addiction in offsprings of parents who use substance or alcohol. Genetic factors increase the risk of addiction in offsprings of addicted parents. Also, there are specific factors in these families: availability to substance, positive attitude to drugs, role modeling of such parents. Other unspecific family risk factors, also, increase the risk of addiction in these children like: disorganized families, divorce, parents conflicts, high stresses, inadequate monitoring, child abuse and mental disorders. In this matter, different family-based preventive interventions are designed which effectiveness is confirmed. At the end of the article, the necessity of family-based prevention is reviewed and some of the interventions, briefly introduced.
