Study of host preference and life cycle of the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), on 33 potato cultivars

In this research، the host preference and life cycle of the Colorado potato beetle، Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say)، was studied on 33 potato cultivars. Significant difference was observed for all studied traits (P>0. 05 & P>0. 01). The lowest number of adults was attracted to cultivars Raja، Carlita and Bridget with mean values of 0. 33±0. 17، 0. 50±0. 29 and 0. 50±0. 29 adults، respectively. The lowest egg masses were observed on Bright، Bridget and Raja with means values of 1. 00±0. 00، 1. 50±0. 29 and 1. 50±0. 29 egg masses per hill، respectively. The longest larval and pupal developmental times were observed on Satina، Idol and Eba with mean values of 36. 57±1. 19، 36. 25±0. 89 and 35. 58±1. 23 days، respectively. The highest larval and pupal mortalities were observed on Delikate، Carlita، Armada، Raja and Bridget with mean values of 91. 11±2. 22، 88. 89±2. 22، 84. 45±2. 22، 80. 00±3. 85 and 80. 00±7. 70 percent، respectively. The longest life cycle times of pest (egg to adult) were observed on Idol، Satina and Elles with mean values of 42. 91±0. 37، 42. 62±1. 40 and 42. 17±1. 27 days، respectively. Therefore، it was concluded that among the 33 cultivars studied in this research، cultivars Bridget، Raja and Bright were the least suitable cultivars for the Colorado potato beetle and they can be used in the IPM of the pest.
