An Examination of Hedayat's Translation of Zandwahumanyasn

Sadegh Hedayat (1902-1951) is mainly known and loved for his novels and short stories whereas there are many people who do not appreciate hisliterature. Most of his novels and stories, even his translations from the French language have been researched and highly regarded, while many pieces of research and translations from Pahlavi language received less attention and remain unknown. This is despite the fact that, he was an expert and a pioneer in this subject as well with a lot of works, which in this study, one of these works titled: Zandwahumanyasn is examined and criticized and is duly compared to the only translation, which was conducted by Mohammad Taghi Rashed Mohasel. This text with an ideological content is related to the Zoroastrian beliefs regarding the end of the world and the manner of victory of goodness over badness. Line by line examination and comparing of his translations show how successful was Hedayat in following the grammatical rules and selection of equivalents in the transfer of concepts.
