The Role of National Media's World Service Channels in Media Diplomacy A focus on Al-Alam and PressTV Channels
Author(s):
Abstract:
As the new trend of communication finds its way into diplomacy and politics and with an increasing usage of modern communicative media and technologies, a novel manner of diplomacy, i.e. media diplomacy has surfaced. Without effective media and communicative tools for persuading public opinion, no country can pursue its objectives at national and international levels. National Media (IRIB) as the Iranian official outlet has a special status and liability. Drawing upon a descriptive-analytic research carried out previously, the present article uses a secondary analysis to explain the role and effect of IRIB world service channels, including Al-Alam and PressTV with regard to media diplomacy and general diplomacy.The findings indicate that IRIB in general and world service channels in particular, have been successful in covering sensitive national and international events, including nuclear energy, Britain marine hostage incident as well as Gaza war.
