Comparison of Mental health status among junior and senior students in Universities of Rafsanjan during 2012

Abstract:
Background And Objective
Students, as a part of youngs society, are constructors of the future. Thus, their Mental health is very important. This study aimed to Compare mental health status among junior and senior students in Universities of Rafsanjan during 2012.
Material And Methods
In this descriptive study, the data were collected using census method from fresh more and senior students in two universities of Rafsanjan by SCL-90-R questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 13 and using descriptive and analytic tests such as independent t test.
Results
Our results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between medical and non – medical students groups in nine dimension of SCL-90-R questionnaire (t test, P< 0.05) and mean scores of disorders in non – medical students group was higher than medical group.
Conclusion
According to these results it could be concluded that the health statue of students is not desirable, especially for non– medical students. Their situations should be investigated and essential activities such as consultation or treatment would be performed, as needed.
