Abstract:
The teaching profession is teacher's work, that they should learn it at the university. However, they learn nothing but teaching and learning theories in our theoretical universities. What is currently called the teaching expertise is merely knowledge about the teaching and learning theories which in the best condition were reduced to teqniques and labeled great title of General Methods and Techniques of Teaching. This article aims to advocate the teaching as a practical field. Rely upon Schwab's practical, is argued that we should acknowledge teaching as a practical field, if we are seriously concerned to develop the teaching profession or realize the teacher as researcher. In light of the practical theory and consideration of practical facet of teaching, different conditions for development of teaching profession might be discussed. Here, two conditions are discussed: (1) perceiving the practical problems and (2) perceiving the diversity of theories. Also, the concrete evidences are addressed that confirm the existence of teaching as a practical field, such as concepts, theories, structures, methods, institutions and above all, the practical paradigm of research.
