Abstract:
This article reviews political developments in Iraq’s contemporary history particularly following the political upheavals in the country since the 1950s to the fall of Kasim’s republican regime in 1963. In that time period, Iraqi people from different walks of life notably urban middle classes, the nomads and students were in search of their own demands alongside with the other movements in the Middle East. Inattention of the governments related to the Hashemite ruling family (1921-1958) to popular demands and exploitation of opposition parties of such demands brought about hefty costs for the ruling family leading to their overthrow and massacre in 1958. This article mainly discusses the occurrence of the 1952 Intifada (uprising), related events and the reaction shown by the Iraqi establishment. The article will take advantage of descriptiveanalytical method, using documents related to the Iraqi political history.
