The Mythological Elements in Zaar‟ Rituals, a Case Study: Zaar in Bandare- Abbas
Author(s):
Abstract:
Zaar ritual has been practiced for centuries all over the coasts of the Persian Gulf from Khouzestan to Balouchestan, the Arabic islands and cities around the Persian Gulf. So far, this ritual in Iran has been studied from a descriptive, anthropological, and music therapy point of view. Therefore, many questions concerning this mysterious ritual have remained unanswered. This ritual includes a wide area around the Persian Gulf, and many people believe in it. This paper tries to study the “Zaar” ritual based on some anthropological, sociological, epistemological, and mythological data using a descriptive- analytical method. The research results reveal that the old practitioners of Zaar ritual have had a mythological understanding of the world around them which is quite different from modern man’s charm-free understanding of the world.
