Effect of Health Promotion Plan with Collaborative Approach on Quality of Life in Overweight School-Age Girls

Abstract:
Background and Objectives
increasing trend of Childhood obesity is worrying in recent years and decreases the ir quality of life now and in the future. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the impact of health promotion programs with collaborative approach on the quality of life of overweight school children.
Methods
This quasi-experimental study was conducted in 2013, in which 80 overweight students at elementary school in Firozabad, selected by non- randomized method and divided into case group and control group. The data gathering tool was consisted of demographic information questionnaire of child and their parents, the general quality of life questionnaire (ped SQl version 4) in two forms (Child & Parent). Then in case groups, health promotion programs with 3 stages assessment, support ive and planning childhood overweight trend is increasing worryingly and evaluation was administered for 3 months. It's a one-hour sessions over a period of 3 to 6 weeks was held. (2 sessions per week for children, parents, schools members). Quality of life for children in both groups before and 3 months after intervention were examined and analyzed by using the SPSS software version 16 through (Independent and paired T-test).
Results
There were no significant difference before the intervention between the two cases and control groups in terms of demographic characteristics and quality of life in children, (p>0. 05). While after intervention "independent T test" showed a significant different between the two groups in means of quality of life before and after intervention (p<0.05) also paired T-test showed significant different in case group after intervention (p<0. 05).
Conclusion
It can be concluded that, implementation of health promotion programs with collaboration of children, parents and teachers, could improve the quality of life of children. Therefore, it is proposed that, with implementation of health programs, we can prevent the growing trend of overweight, obesity and low quality of life in children and adolescents.
