Community Assessment for Problems Identification 17th Area of Municipality of Tehran, 1381

This was a community based study for needs assessment and priority setting in 17th area municipality of Tehran (Population Research Center of Tehran, University of Medical Sciences and Health Services).This study was undertaken 3 phases: The first phase was a descriptive study for demographic & community status identification by observation, available resources in 17th area. The second phase was consisted of a qualitative study with focus group discussion, in-depth interview and expert panel methods because of resident's problems identification. The third phase was a cross - sectional study carried out by closed questionnaire based on qualitative study of phase 2. With a population of approximately 288000 residents,17th area of Tehran is the smallest area of Tehran located in the south western corner of Tehran. Because of presence different factors, residents was confronted to multiple problems. The list of problems portrayed through the second as follow: Limited income, addiction, overpopulation, unemployment, noise pollution caused by railway passages, high rate of crime, teraffic congestion, environmental health disturbance, passage of trains and airplanes, old structures. At the third phase a total number of 525 individuals were selected to distinguish correlation between resident's target group's ideas.This study is recommended that needs and priorities setting are different in people and leaders and providers. It is necessary to revise policy and plans based on needs assessment and priority setting in community. Therefore, with attention to, policy makers and providers will have been able to identify community problems and correct their plans appropriate to community needs.
