The feasibility assessment of participatory irrigation management in rural production cooperatives in Taybad County

The overall objective of this research was to investigate the feasibility assessment of participatory irrigation management in rural production cooperatives in Taybad Township. Research method was descriptive-analytical based on survey research. The study population was included all members of the rural production cooperatives in Taybad county, which includes six rural production cooperatives with 2116 individuals. Sampling method was the stratified random sampling with proper attribution to the share of each cooperative. The sample size was estimated 280 individuals as determined by using Cochran formula. A questionnaire was used to collect data. It was validated by a panel of experts and the reliability was estimated by Cronbach's alpha and the coefficient was 0.81. Results showed that from the member's point of view, maximum strength of the feasibility of participatory irrigation management in rural production cooperativesis required fields related to support services. Correlation test results showed a significant relationship between age, annual income, length of membership in the cooperative, history of agricultural activity, ownership of land, ownership of rain fed land rates, ownership of irrigated land rates, number of household members and the general feasibility of the participatory irrigation management. This study recommended Proper utilization of the capacity of cooperatives to support services in the field of participatory irrigation and appropriate cooperation between administrative sections such as Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Water Organization with Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors and members for proper use of the capacity of cooperatives in other components necessary for the establishment of participatory irrigation management.
