Listening Strategies among Persian Language Learners: Case Study of Pre-university Learners

The present research examines the academic listening comprehension strategies (LCS) of a total number of 59 intermediate and high-intermediate Persian learners who were taking pre-university courses in 2012 in Persian Language Centre in Imam Khomeini International University، Qazvin. The study brought application of listening comprehension strategies (LCS) among Persian learners into focus; in addition، it concentrated on learners’ multifaceted nature of LCS، as an index for listening proficiency. Results of three-part translated-into-Persian survey showed that Persian learners in advanced level had better performance compared to other learners. Moreover، it was revealed that upper-intermediate and advanced learners demonstrated comparatively more mastery in all four types of strategies; however، they had less proficiency in metacognitive strategy. Furthermore، skillful learners were reported weaker in applying taking notes، summarizing lectures، and understanding the main ideas. Findings، also، showed that cognitive، socio-affective، metacognitive، and memory strategies could considerably predict the application of strategies among learners، respectively. It could be concluded that Persian teachers would require employing appropriate in enhancing learners’ listening requirements.
