A Study of simple and multivariate correlation of gratitude with positive and negative affect, happiness and optimism

Abstract:
Gratitude is one of the new factors in positive psychology. The purpose of this study is examination of correlation of these variables for Iranian subjects. The main question is relation of gratitude with positive and negative affect, happiness and optimism. Participants were clustering assigned 128 students (118 women & 10 men) of 3 universities from Iran. The GQ-6, PANAS, LOT, And Axford Happiness scales completed for assessments. Results of correlation between gratitude and positive affect, negative affect, happiness and optimism variables systematically were: r=.28, p<.001; r=-.48, p<.000; r=.44, p<.000 & r=.57, p<.000. Gratitude was predict these variables (R2=.43, P<.000) and positive affect, happiness and optimism predicted %43 of gratitude. The results of this research support the previous researches on gratitude. This study showed a significant relation between gratitude with positive and negative affect, happiness and optimism. In addition, this study showed that negative affect, happiness and optimism were the significant predictors of gratitude.
