A Structural Analysis of " Hamzieh Sayyab" in Lamamentation for Imam Hussain

“Rasa” (dirge or lamentation) constitutes one of the most remarkable purposes of Hussainian poetry in all periods and due to the fact that the tragedy of Imam Hussain reflects the most symbolic and the most agonizing tragedy that has ever occurred since the beginning of the Islam, Rasa has never been abandoned in any of the Islamic periods and the poets have described the martyrdom of Imam Hussain with the most emotional terms and methods. In the present paper, Qasidehe- Sayyab entitled “Silent Tears” has been analyzed from the viewpoints of form and meaning to evaluate the capability of the poet concerning the form of elegy or “Marsiah” and to identify the given characteristics of his work. The final aim of the paper is to prove the superiority of the tragedy of Karbala and to demonstrate the fact of its not being restricted by the spatial and temporal contexts or by the tribal, national, and religious affiliations.
