Abstract:
Background And Objective
Psychological well-being is one of the criteria related to mental health and refers to people’s evaluation of their lives. Resiliency، on the other hand، is the individual ability to establish a biological-mental balance in dangerous conditions. This study aims to explore the relationship between psychological well-being and resilience among mothers of children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder compared with mothers of normal children.
Methods
The research statistical population include all mothers having sons aged 5-12 who live in Tehran. 50 mothers of children with hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder and 50 mothers of normal children were selected using targeted sampling method. Data gathering tools included Ryff’s psychological well-being scales and Connor-Davidson Resiliency Scale.
Results
Analysis of the results using independent T -test and Pearson correlations showed a significant difference (p<0. 05) between measures of psychological well-being and resilience of mothers having children with attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder and mothers having normal children. In other words، considering the average of psychological well-being and resilience in both groups، mothers of normal children have higher psychological well-being and resilience comparing to mothers of children with attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder. Furthermore، based on the research findings، it can be concluded that in both groups of mothers، there is a significant positive correlation between psychological well-being and resilience variables (p<0. 05).
Conclusion
Having a high psychological well-being can be a good criterion for preditcing mothers’ resilience. The results of this study can be useful in therapeutic planning and preparing training programs for families having children with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (AHDH).
