Introducing the architecture of lamp reservoirs in Safavid era of Sarayan city

The city of Sarayan is among salt desert cites of Iran which always has been in a straitened circumstances of water provision، preservation and distribution and the worth of water feels more in comparison with the other places; for this reason for obviating of this shortage، some lamp reservoirs has been built around the city to avert the water needs of residents. In this research، 6 number of remained lamp reservoirs in precincts of old texture of city has been investigated. The present research on the base of descriptive-analytical research method، deals with introducing and analyzing of the architectural elements of masons from different points and its materials and findings has been accomplished in one part from library references and from the other aspect performed in field studies. So far in no comprehensive study has been accomplished in relation to the lamp reservoirs of Saraysn city and all the inspections has a descriptive aspect only. Because of the importance of these masons in people’s life from the past to this day، it convicted the writer of the present article to investigate specifically these lamp reservoirs and the main question of this research is that whether there can be seen some kind of variety in architectural materials of lamp reservoirs? Perhaps in the inspection of the said lamp reservoir it seems that there is no variety in the original materials of lamp reservoirs; whereas by the inspection of entrance room stairs، gate valve and tank، the diversity can be seen in their design and materials. Also in the coverage of rooms specially in relation to the front portal of the mason door and because most part of these lamp reservoirs are in basement ground and the artificer cannot perform ornamentation in all of the areas and spaces، the artificer accomplished the highest dexterity of himself in front portal of the mason door and among them the masons which are in the center of texture and precincts of the grandees and nobles contains most ornamentations in relation to the other remained masons. These masons from the architectural aspect as in portal door coverage or as in stairs or tanks has been built in such a way that the ecological conditions has a least effect in these buildings.
