The Relationship between Personality Traits and Mental Health of Women Offenders in Prison in Tehran

addressing the women issues have always been the subject of debates especially in recent years. Considering the fact that today women contain half of the human community, the basis and community and family depend on the health of all members of society, especially women. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between personality traits and mental health of women offenders imprisoned in Tehran. in terms of its objective the present study is of an applied research type and in terms of data collection process it is of a survey type. The statistical population includes women prisoners in Tehran; of those prisoners 100 women were randomly selected. In order to collect the required data three questionnaires of Adult Attachment Style (AAS) (α=.84), personality traits (NEO) (α=.83), and general health (GHQ) (α=.91) were employed. The research design was correlational and the data were analyzed using statistical methods (multivariate correlation coefficient). Findings and the obtained results indicated that the two predictors of neuroticism and extroversion predict 60% of mental health changes. Also, two predictors of avoidant attachment style and secure attachment style predict 24.20% of mental health changes.
