The study of road bases of Red Crescent society due to have rescue & relief specialized equipment and facilities

Abstract:
Background
With 600 rescue and relief fixed bases, Red Crescent society of the Islamic Republic of Iran provide the specialized rescue and relief services to people throughout the year across the country. However, the road relief bases are the main activities of the society which cover more than 32000 km of urban or suburban roads. Given the diversity functions and duties in variable geographical regions, having the facilities in road rescue and relief bases in Red Crescent society should be determined as a key element of traffic accidents and crisis management.
Method
In this study, by using weighted centrality index, 20 indicators in 282 road bases were evaluated due to have the specialized rescue and relief equipment in 31 provinces and classified into four groups such as high, relatively high, relatively poor and poor.
Findings
According to the results, about 139 road bases in Red Crescent society (49% of the total) have adequate facilities in order to provide rescue and relief incidents and accidents in suburban roads and more than half of the bases (143) need to strengthen and develop (51%).
