Truthfullness, comparative study of the teachings of Islamic ethics and principles of medical ethics

Abstract:
Truthfullness is one of the moral virtues that has been emphasized in the Quran verses, and Islamic traditions, with accounting spiritual and material effects. The aim of this study is analyzing of the Islamic sources and biomedical ethics texts for this concept and comparing of their similarities and differences of its moral validity to transfer of the necessary and adequate or right information to the patients. Truthfulness is a value both in ethical teachings of Islam and in professional medical ethics. So, 98% of physicians obey this moral rule. However, it may cause a conflict between the principles of non-maleficence and autonomy. So, depending on the case, physician may tell the truth to the patient or only to her or his family in the sake of do not harm the patient. But the turning the direction to the second and proceeding enhanced individual capacity and knowledge to make informed decision, based on self-determination is visible.
